THE NEWTOWNER/Newtown High School Poetry Award

THE NEWTOWNER/Newtown High School Poetry Award is open to students of Newtown High School. Students of NHS may submit up to three poems of any type responding to the theme, "Spirit". Poems may be no longer than 35 lines in length. Deadline for entries is June 1, 2012 with winners notified by September 7, 2012, and prizes awarded at the Newtown Arts Festival on September 15, 2012. No fee to enter. First place wins $50.00 cash prize, trophy, certificate, publication in THE NEWTOWNER magazine, and 2 copies of the issue of THE NEWTOWNER in which the winning poem appears. Certificates given to second and third place and honorable mentions, plus names listed in the Fall issue of THE NEWTOWNER and announced at the Newtown Arts Festival. Criteria: Originality, creativity, development of theme, use of poetic language and techniques. Conditions: Student must be a student of Newtown High School, Newtown, CT. Poems must not be previously published. Rights and permissions: The Newtowner requests First American Serial Rights, with all rights reverting back to the Author 120 days after publication. The Newtowner reserves the right to publish any entry submitted to the competition, whether or not it wins a place in the competition.
